Actually, Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress itself isn’t all that great so maybe the bow is meant to distract you from noticing that. On the other hand, Gwyneth is known for hiding from paparazzi by sticking bags or purses in front of her face, pulling up scarves, anything to keep them from getting too many photos of her. So perhaps she chose this dress so that she could stick her face behind the big, ugly bow if too many cameras came near. That must be it.
